A revolutionary leftist group calling itself the “French 75” frees illegal immigrants from detention centers in California, carries out attacks and robs banks. Sixteen years later, activist Bob Ferguson (Leonardo DiCaprio), who has been in hiding, and his teenage daughter once again find themselves in the crosshairs of the authorities. Right-wing conservative Colonel Lockshaw (Sean Penn) has some very particular reasons for tracking them down. Loosely based on Thomas Pynchon’s novel “Vineland”, this action-packed film tells a story as complex as it is turbulent over a breathless 162 minutes of a society torn apart by social and political tensions. Paul Thomas Anderson, who played a key role in the comeback of the 70mm format with The Master (2012), shot his latest film – which won six Oscars – in VistaVision, a widescreen format that was particularly common between 1954 and 1961. ONE BATTLE AFTER ANOTHER (USA 2025) was released in cinemas across the United States in seven different formats, including three analogue ones: 35 mm, 70 mm and 70 mm IMAX. (hjf)
